Story
I have been coaxed, although willingly signed up, to cycle 100 miles around Hertfordshire. The route starts and finishes in Welwyn Garden City, the route hasn't been released yet, but it looks to go through Letchworth so I hope to see you guys cheering us on ;)
So why the Alzheimer's Society?
Because of the gentleman in the profile picture.....
That photo was taken about 5 years ago, he's almost unrecognisable now, that life you see in his face has for the most part gone, apart from the rare glimpses of lucidness.
My grandfather is alive, but not as I knew him. It's hit and miss whether he will recognise me when I go and visit.
Alzheimer's has taken my Grandfather as I knew him from me.
Alzheimers causes an extended grieving process because we have to keep revisiting loss every time we see him. He's physically still with us but everything that made him my Grandfather has pretty much disappeared.
We can sometimes share a joke, usually when he tells me something along the lines of that he got back this morning from Hong Kong or some other exotic place and I'll play along. In reality him making it outside of his bedroom, is rare and takes 2 carers to manage it.
I can't tell you what a donation will do for stopping or supporting those with Alzheimer's, however I can tell you that if it in some way it can contribute to stopping this horrid disease then that's all I can wish for.
