Yes I'm pestering you for money again, but this for me is going to be a massive challenge and its for a cause close to my heart, so please help.
On May 23rd Madeleine and I will be taking part in a 'short' triathlon at the Keswick Mountain Festival to raise money for The World Endometriosis Research Foundation, it will consist of: a 400m swim, 17.5k bike ride and a 5k run.
Its estimated that 5-10% of women in the UK suffer from endometriosis, yet the condition is widely unheard of, some people think its a bit disgusting to talk about but that doesn't mean all those ladies should have to suffer in silence.
The condition still isn't fully understood and as of yet women are not offered a cure, instead they are only offered a very limited choice of often very drastic ways of coping with this very aggressive disease, that is why I am raising money to go towards its research.
Endometriosis occurs when cells similar to those lining the womb grow elsewhere in the body, each month these cells grow like the ones in the womb which causes extreme pain, inflammation and scarring. This can cause organs to stick together or be perforated and it can cause cysts to form, the resulting symptoms are vast but excruciating pain, depression, fertility problems and chronic fatigue are some of the most common.
The World Endometriosis Research Foundation was created in 2006 as the first global charity to foster research in endometriosis, their website can be found
here and more information about endometriosis
here.
Big thank you to Madeleine for motivating me and pretty much forcing me to do this.
