Story
Dear All,
As a runner for now 3 years I've completed some runs but never considered tackling the big Marathon so this year I've said carpe diem and signed up for the 2010 Belin Marathon!
I'm therefore going to use this opportunity to raise funds for Help for Heroes, a charity which supports members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of their country, including in Afghanistan and Iraq. Coming from an Armed Forces family I hope that the money I raise will never have to directly help my sister, however I know there are so many other sisters and brothers out there who won't be so lucky. By supporting Help for Heroes I hope adequate medical and psychological support can be in place for servicemen and women, but also make the familes of those fighting feel secure in the knowledge that if the worse is to happen then at least their loved ones will receive the best possible care.
What ever your military or political inclinations I'd urge you to support this venture even if its just in recognition that running 42km is a bloody long way and the training doesn't combine easily with a student life style! Depite the early mornings and need to cut back on chip butties and booze in preparation I've also got the extra incentive that my sister Alice completed the Berlin Marathon inn just under 4hours in 2008 so I'm making it my goal to beat her time!
So please, help support my marathon effort and make my blisters and back ache count for a good cause which makes a real difference to so many we know and love in the UK.
Thank you and I'll keep everyone up to date!
