Health Poverty Action acts in solidarity with health workers, activists and communities worldwide to improve health and challenge causes of poverty. We approach health as an issue of social justice, prioritising those missed out by others and address the full range of factors which impact on health.

Story

Health Poverty Action is appealing for urgent funds to help tackle deadly outbreaks of acute watery diarrhoea in the remote provinces of Attapeu in Laos and Ratanakiri in Cambodia.

Only last year Attapeu was devastated by floods and whole villages lost lands and livelihoods. This new threat places their fragile recovery at risk. Four people have already lost their lives and 225 cases of acute watery diarrhoea have been reported. We urgently need to:

·         Provide safe water

·         Treat acute watery diarrhoea infections

·         Train health staff to deal with the outbreak

·         Help communities set up an early-warning system

Across the border, impoverished indigenous communities in Ratanakiri, Cambodia are facing a similar threat. There have already been 39 deaths and 3,464 infections.

We need to safeguard the health of 17,000 vulnerable families in these regions. Please show your support and stand in solidarity with these very poor communities.
