Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I am planning to cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats in 9 days starting on August 27th 2011. The total distance is 915 miles which averages out at just over 100 miles per day. This will mean that I will be cycling for about 7 hours per day over the 9 days. For those who have not tried it, that is a LONG time on a bike!!!!
The reason I am putting myself through this challenge is to raise money for Bowel and Cancer Research. This charity aims to improve survival rates through research into the spread and behaviour of cancer and to improve the quality of life for bowel cancer sufferers.
I chose this charity because just over 18 months ago my Mother passed away from bowel cancer which went undetected for several months. Bowel cancer affects 38,000 people a year in the UK but is in fact one of the easiest cancers to cure. However, despite this only 50% of people diagnosed will be alive after 5 years. This is due to late diagnosis of the condition and a lack of clinical research when compared to most other forms of cancer.
Any money that you can spare to sponsor me for the trip would be very much appreciated and would make a big difference to the charity that I have chosen. Donating through this site will mean that Bowel and Cancer Research will get your money faster, and if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your donation at no extra cost to you.
Thanks for your generosity and wish me luck, I think I'm going to need it!!!!
After a tough 9 days of cycling I finally completed the journey and arrived in John O' Groats at 5pm on Sunday 4th September. Thank you all for your generosity in helping me raise much more than my original target.
