RelayGB takes place in May 2012 and will involve some 500 runners (individuals and teams) taking on 2,600 miles around Great Britain.  They will be pounding the roads day and night with the hope of bringing the baton back round to its starting point in London.  On 4th May I will be participating in this effort to break the world record for the most consecutive marathons ever completed. The marathons will be run to raise money for Brain Tumour UK, a charity committed to providing personal support to brain tumour patients, funding research to identify better treatments, and raising awareness about the illness.  Brain tumours kill more young women than breast cancer, they kill more young men than prostate cancer and they take more children's lives than any other form of cancer. 2 people every hour are diagnosed with a brain tumour.  Lack of funding in brain tumour research is a major issue. Other more high profile conditions receive up to 15 times the government funding available for research.  Although Brain Tumour UK is lobbying to rectify this deficit, change has been slow in coming and so they’re working hard right now to get the resources that are needed to research effective diagnostic and treatment options. New and better treatments are desperately needed. We need more laboratory research and clinical trials. We have to do more.
