Chris's UPHILL bike ride from Yeovil to Huddersfield! · 2 May 2012

Thank you for choosing to support Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA). As a charity YAA relies on the generosity of individuals & organisations to help save lives across Yorkshire. To keep both of Yorkshire’s air ambulances in the air we need to raise £19,000 per day. Thank you from the team YAA.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am fundraising for ‘Keep It Up’ Pedal 4 Pounds 3. Half the money goes to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the other half to Huddersfield Town's academy.

This all started as these things usually do - over a pint. Someone comes up with a stupid idea and the next thing I know I have agreed with my best two mates to ride 260+ miles from Yeovil (Devon) to Huddersfield - and yes before you say it - it is the wrong way - we are doing it up hill!. I blame my nephew, baby Joe who is currently 6ft 4 and is just about to turn 17 so not really a baby anymore. About a year ago he signed for Huddersfield Town F.C, under 18's, and through this learnt about the fundraising the club did for the Yorkshire air ambulance. When the club informed him about a sponsored bike ride in aid of the charity he thought it would be a good idea to rope me and his Dad in. When I was asked to take part I said no problem, expecting a 20 - 30 mile ride, it was only later following a few beers that the mileage was mentioned. Didn't seem too bad at the time, it was the next morning that the reality struck. So as of today, well in a few days as we have a big night organised in leeds tomorrow, the challenge starts. I have at least made a start today, firstly I have ordered my new bike which will arrive on Monday - I haven't owned a racer since I was in my early teens so this is going to be interesting.(Joe - when you make it into the England squad you owe me) and secondly I am setting up this page in order to try and raise £1000 towards the appeal.

I know times are hard but anything you give will be greatly appreciated, I can assure everyone this is going to be a hard challenge and I would not be going through with it if I didn't believe that the cause was a good one. Thanks.Chris
