We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For those of you who have known me long enough you may recall a time, many years ago , when I suffered with recurring, agonising and debilitating lower back pain.

All that changed when a friend of ours recommended that we go to Wymondham Chiropractic clinic and see what a man called Andrea Lucchetti could do to help.

The man is a legend, as anyone who knows him can attest. Not only has he fixed my back issues with continued treatment,  he has shown care and compassion through other health issues I have suffered. I consider him now to be a friend.

I have also seen how Andrea, selflessly and compassionately gives his time to others who he feels he is able to help.

Over the past few years I have became aware from speaking with Andrea during my routine treatments about one of his other patients, who was very close to his heart, called Maisie Colquhoun.

Maisie was a very vibrant and courageous girl who was diagnosed with a rare aggressive bone cancer called Ewing's sarcoma.

In 2014 at 15yrs old, she underwent intensive rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a stem cell transplant, all at ward C9 at Addenbrookes hospital, Cambridge.
This was all facilitated by Teenage Cancer Trust, who fund 28 specialist units across the UK and 48 nurses and youth support coordinators .
We were not suffering alone during this time as sadly 7 young people are diagnosed every day in the UK with cancer.
In loving memory of Maisie, we are committed to fundraising for this amazing charity, to help to ensure that Teenage Cancer Trust can continue to support young people's lives. Without the support of the Consultants,Drs, Nurses and youth support coordinators, our family experience would have had no rays of sunlight.

I have been involved as a minibus driver for the wonderful group of people who Andrea has assembled who fundraise for this worthy cause in Maisie’s name. Firstly the 3 Peaks Challenge and more recently for a group of Maisie’s school friends who climbed Mt Snowdon.

This time he has asked me to do some walking 😯
How can I refuse ?
It will be walking the 87 miles in 4 days across Hadrians Wall in September 2022.

This will prove a huge personal challenge for me as I am recovering from a ruptured Achilles’ tendon.
Recovery is going well, but very slowly.
My training, in order that I stand any chance of making it, has already begun.

Thank you for reading my story. Please give what you can to show your support to me and Teenage Cancer Trust.
