Story

I am organising a charity FANCY DRESS at The Barnes Hotel, in Sunderland on the31st October 2009 for 'St Benedicts Hospice at home service' and also as a memory of Chris Hanratty, my husband, who sadly passed away on 20th March 09 aged only 48.
Chris was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour in April of last year and with the necessary treatment was able to keep the illness under control until a relapse at the beginning of this year.

Chris was a fit, healthy, young at heart, man and lived life to the full. He worked as a Patient Transport Service Care Assistant, for the North East Ambulance Service. He took patients to and from hospital appointments and worked at all the local hospitals.
He had a passion for music and played the guitar. He was in several bands over the years and he wrote his own music and lyrics, but never had any produced.

From the initial diagnosis we were introduced to the Macmillan nurses who were a constant source of support and friendship to ourselves and our family during this very difficult time, especially towards the end of Chris's life.

The support, which the Hospices and Macmillan Nurses are able to provide, rely very heavily, on public donations and appeals. Nobody ever wants to find themselves in a position where The Macmillan nurses become such an integral part of your life, but it is a situation that can affect anybody, at any time. For this reason I want to try and raise as much money as possible to donate to this worthy cause so that they can continue with all the research and work involved, and to say thank you.
