Dear friends
On the 12th September this year I will be taking part in the most physically demanding challenge of my life - the 'First Monster Race'. Along with my 3 team mates, we will be taking on the world famous Loch Ness in a 120k relay race of foot and bike around .... yes you guessed it, the home of Nessy.
On the day I will be taking on a challenging 16k run of grueling Scottish highland terrain, followed with an equally challenging final leg on bike to cross the finish line on behalf of my team (hopefully not in last place : ) With only 3 weeks to go till race day, training is really ramping up and this has already been a test of my determination, commitment and sacrifice ......... the Domino Pizza deliveries have had to be put on hold for a while and boy do I love a pizza!
I was originally asked to take part in this challenge over a social pint ..... and like many a drunken ramble it seemed like a good idea at the time. When I awoke the next morning and remembered what I had signed myself up for I felt nervous (somewhat sick) but then I decided that this would be a great opportunity not only to challenge myself to the limits but also to raise money for a great cause and my chosen charity - Willen Hospice.
On the 1st March this year, my father-in-law, John Lewis, sadly lost his fight against cancer. In the week leading up to this sad day John was admitted to the hospice where the staff did an amazing job doing all they could for him, but also in the compassion they showed towards the family around him. I will be competing (and training) in honor of John but I also want to raise as much money as I can to support the hospice in their relentless task of caring for cancer sufferers and other terminally ill patients. I ask you from the bottom of my heart to make a donation of what ever you can to help out this great cause - the Hospice at Willen is entirely funded by private money and helps so many people during a time when the rest of of really don't know what to do!
I'm sure most of you are up to speed with how Justgiving works so please start clicking away and help me reach my target of £500. For the 'old school' amongst you I also have the good old fashioned sponsor form so please come and see me.
I thank you all in advance for your support of me in this event and remember ..... the more money I raise, the faster I will run and the more I will hurt!!
Cheers
Chris x
