Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This coming Spring I will take part in a Leg 6 of the Round the World Yacht Race; a 28-32 day race across the North Pacific from Qingdao in China to San Francisco on the Western Coast of the United States. The race is scheduled to start on the 4th March 2012 and is expected to take between 28 and 32 days, though the duration is heavily dependant on the weather consitions we encounter along the way!

The Pacific crossing is renowned as the most arduous and challenging of the Round the World Yacht Race, both for its long duration and also for the size and ferocity of the weather systems we will encounter. It's expected that we will pass through or be passed over by a major weather system once every 3-5 days (Gale or typhoon force winds with major ocean swells) meaning that for long periods the boats will be travelling at between 25 and 30 kts an hour.......something which I am both thrilled and slightly apprehensive about!

Those of you who know me best (or have spoken to me most recently) will also be aware that my girlfriend Emma has recently suffered a number of Epileptic fits, of which she has no prior history or as yet any explanation for their occurrence.

With the above in mind I have decided to use the opportunity I have as a participant in the race to try to raise money for a charity that carries out research into both the cause and treatment of Epilepsy whilst also offering emotional support to those affected.

The charity I have chosen is Epilepsy Society and their website is

www.epilepsysociety.org.uk

So if you are interested in helping me raise money for Epilepsy Society (which I happily assume you are as you're reading this) and simultaneously giving me a huge positive to think of whilst I'm bobbing up and down in the middle of the Pacific, then please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you everyone!

Ps.
