Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I need a challenge!

As many of you know I've had a pretty horrid time over the last 18 months. I had a serious leg break in August 2010 which has stopped me doing many things I could do before. I was told at the time that I was lucky to still have my leg and if it had been 25 years ago I most probably would have lost it. I had my third operation just before Christmas last year and all appears to be moving in the right direction with lots of walking, gym work and hydrotherapy.

I have been able to move in the right direction, culminating in my success in applying to be part of a team to trek to Everest Base Camp in June and proving to myself that I can lead a physical life again.

The Challenge

Lloyds Banking Group's chosen charity of the year - Save the Children has challenged 33 of Lloyds Banking Group's bravest employees to trek to Everest Base Camp in June to raise £140,000 for their work with the UK’s most vulnerable. I have been chosen to be one of the 33 and have been set the task of raising £4,000.

The Everest Base Camp trek is probably one of the most famous in the world and without doubt one of the more challenging treks to take on.

My journey to the Everest Base Camp (EBC) begins in Kathmandu, and then takes me via twin engine plane to Lukla, the gateway to the Khumba region. From here I will continue into the heart of the Nepali Himalaya and reach the highest point on my trek at Kala Patter at 5,545m (18,192ft). Once at the summit I will trek more than 85km over 10 days to my ultimate destination, Everest Base Camp.

The satisfaction of completing the trek and helping thousands of the UK’s most vulnerable children made this an opportunity not to be missed.

Why am I doing this?

Right here in the UK, 1 in 4 children currently live in poverty. For the millions of children affected this means going without warm, clean clothes, or enough food on the table. Some have to sleep on a concrete floor because they do not have a bed.

Living in this kind of poverty, children fall behind before they are even old enough to start school. And once they are at school, poorer children struggle to keep up with their wealthier classmates. They are less confident in their own abilities, and at home they have not got space to do their homework, or the books they need to learn.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. You can also donate by texting EVER67 £<insert amount> to 70070.

So please dig deep and support me on this very rewarding challenge.

Many thanks

Chris
