Hi all,
This is my first attempt at any kind of marathon, so I wanted to choose a charity and motivation that would help me achieve my goals, of firstly finishing the marathon and secondly raising money for a really good cause.
I will be running for Down's South London. This is an extremely worthy, member-run charity that supports children with Down's Syndrome and their families. It provides specialist speech and language therapy sessions for children aged 0-7 years.
I didn't know a whole lot about the charity or its work until I started working with a colleague in my current job. We've known each other for about 2 years and during this time I've learnt about the charity and the specific work it does for her son who has Down's syndrome. He's such a happy and social toddler who regularly attends speech and language therapy sessions, all of which his mum attends as well as working part time. I get a great deal of personal motivation from the hard working attitude that she has and a huge amount of respect for the devotion she has for her son. I know this is the same with all families involved with Down's South have been able to transform their children's lives. I have learnt that Down's syndrome doesn't have to be a burden but more of a stepping stone in the child's early development.
Any donation will be greatly appreciated and will contribute to the fantastic efforts that this charity does to continue to provide the incredible therapy service and support network that children and their families in the London area receive.
Thank you
Chris
