Xmas Cracker Fell Race · 20 December 2009

East Cheshire Hospice provides essential care, support and compassion to local adults facing life limiting illnesses. We rely on fundraising to pay for over 80% of our daily costs, and so you can be sure your support will make a huge difference to our patients, their families and loved ones.

Story

Sadly in august 2009 my mum passed away following a brave and courageous 2 year battle with cancer.

During her final months she spent some time in a local hospice (East Cheshire Hospice).  Being there meant that she did not have to go into hospital, something that was important to mum. In the hospice mum received specialist care, counselling and importantly the staff were able to treat her pain through monitoring and adjusting her medication. This enabled mum to continue and return back home. Obviously these were very difficult times but the environment at the hospice, and the people who were supporting her, helped so much.

The hospice is a charity run organisation, and is not funded by the government.   To keep a patient in the hospice per day it costs £5,000.

As a thank you to the hospice for the care and support they showed to my mum, I am going to run in a fell race called the Xmas cracker on the 20th December.

This is a challenging 8 mile race starting at Tittersworth reservoir with an ascent of approx 1,000ft onto the roaches and then back down to the reservoir.

I must point out that you may think that it’s not that hard but for someone who only runs when he hears ‘last orders’ have been called... it is!!

Please show your support and sponsor me by clicking on the link below. Any contribution will be very gratefully received and will personally mean a great deal.

p.s. I will be running it in fancy dress.  All ideas are welcome!!
