SEE US ON MATCH OF THE DAY ON 7TH JULY.

This summer, whilst you're sitting in our green and pleasant land with a cold beer enjoying the football fiesta in South Africa, think how much more enjoyable that beer will be knowing that you've done something to help alleviate the suffering of some the kids outside the glitzy stadiums.

I'm going out to a township in Durban for 2 weeks in June, to work on a project with over 100 England fans. There's 2 aspects to the project - firstly, running a soccer school for the kids, and secondly, doing a building project with orphanages within the "Valley of a Thousand Hills". This is the epicentre of the world's HIV/Aids Crisis, with more than 75% HIV infection, and 80% unemployment.

The charity is called Lionsraw, and more details can be found on their website - http://www.lionsraw.org/. They recently featured in a BBC documentary, which you can view at http://www.vimeo.com/7798822. Also, find Lionsraw on twitter and facebook, and watch us on BBC Match of the Day on 7th July (England vs Brazil semi final day!)

I'm paying my own airfare, and all money donated on this website goes directly via the charity to support the project. All donations are very gratefully received - however, if you can, would you consider donating £50 or more to step change what we can achieve? The initial target was £2000, but any extra goes straight to the project in the township, so don't hold back!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

[Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
