We work with outstanding local leaders to transform Burundi and beyond.
Story
To my lovely friends,
I recently went to a talk at the Christian Medics conference
by Simon Guillebaud who heads up Great Lakes Outreach in Burundi. I was really
inspired by him talking about the work they are doing there to help rebuild a
country that has been devastated by a war which only recently ended.
He talked about how a friend of his died at the age of 18
because he couldn’t afford the medication he needed. It cost £5. We take it for
granted here in the UK that we won’t die of conditions that are easily treatable. That isn’t
the case for the people in Burundi, many of whom are desperately poor. The
price of your lunch here is the price of a life out there – how many lives could you afford to save?
As part of my course
I’m doing a module about HIV which, in the UK, because of available anti-retrovirals
isn’t the death sentence it once was. In Burundi HIV has reached pandemic
proportions and there are hundreds of thousands of kids who’ve lost parents
with AIDS. It seems totally wrong that those kids, with God given talents and
dreams can’t run after what he has for them because they don’t have the
resources , medication and help to do that. The orphanage GLO has set up aims
to help these kids grow up to be the people they were made to be, and who
knows, they might be the ones who change the country they are in.
I’m raising money for the medical clinic and orphanage which
GLO set up by running the London Marathon in April. Please make all this
ridiculous training and 26.2 miles worth it and go totally mental sponsoring me
as much as possible! I really hope we can give loads to these great people.
Thank you so much,
Lots of love Christine x
