A close friend, Kerry, from Somerset introduced me to the The Piers Simon Appeal (PSA). Her brother lost one of his dearest friends, Piers Simon in the devastating Indian Ocean Tsunami on 26 December 2004. Piers was on the island of Koh Phi Phi in Thailand when the wave hit. You will all have some idea of the devastation it caused. The total death toll exceeded an estimated 230,000 people, and a further 1.7 million lost their homes and were left destitute. The PSA was launched during Piers’ memorial service, held at Forde Abbey in Somerset on January 18th 2005. It’s charity status was granted by the charity commission on May 18th 2005.

The PSA support the victims of natural disasters, providing shelter and helping to rebuild devastated lives. It also operates "School in a Bag" providing vital equipment for vulnerable children worldwide.
