Hey all, my name is Clair, I'm 18 and on my GAP year, and this year I want to do something amazing and help raise money to support local services that give so much to the community.

What: Tandem Skydive for Charity
Who: The Parkinson's Day Hospital and The Derby Haematology unit
Why: I found it really hard to pick just the one charity as two people very close to me have used two of the facilities with in derby, so im raising money for both and splitting it equally between the two charitys.
When: The 3rd of April 2010
Where: Langar Airfield, Nottingham

Every year I do the Cancer Run - Race for life too! This year as well I'm raising money by doing a skydive and Im jumping for all those who are still fighting cancer and for the families and friends of those who have lost someone to the disease. I am jumping for someone who meant the world to my friend - Denny Sharp; treasured auntie, beloved friend and missed by all.

The Back Story
A few years ago two people very close to me were diagnosed with illnesses. One with Parkinson's and the other with cancer. Although this news was heart breaking everyone pulled together to help and support where ever we could.

Cancer - After a long and emotional battle against cancer, my Nanna is still with us here today and fighting fit! She has received so much help and support from The Derby Haematology Unit who helped her through recovery and continues to help and support her today! Im so proud of you!

Parkinson's - Parkinson's is a disease that effects the muscles, joints and nervous system. Unlike cancer, Parkinson's does not have a cure as of yet. However there are places such as The Parkinson's Day Hospital where sufferers can go to receive support (both mentally and physically), Physiotherapy (to help exercise the muscles and joints - trying to improve the sufferers movement). The Parkinson's Day Hospital is so good to all the people who use its services, not just those who are sufferers but it also offers support for family and friends also.

Both charities are within derby so all the money raised stays local! I hope to raise enough money to help keep the services running as so many people will benefit.

Please all dig deep as every penny counts!!
