Here it begins...the great launch into your generous pockets!
Taking leave of my senses perhaps, I'm cycling from John O'Groats to Land's End from 10 - 24 April on a solo, unsupported and self-financed trip. I've yet to decide whether I'm going 'old school' with an atlas or will venture into the world of 'beep' GPS to get me from north to south. The trip will be in the region of 1000 miles - or 2000 if I make a lot of wrong turns.
I'm putting up with the prospect of lycra and saddle sore lotions in aid of Kidney Research UK. If you know anyone with kidney disease, on dialysis or who has had a transplant I probably need to say no more. If you don't, then the kidney is perhaps one of the least glamorous organs of the body and tends to get forgotten in the fundraising stakes. I want to do something about that in my own small way..and, hopefully, with your support. Inherited kidney disease has run riot through my own family so it means a lot to me on a personal basis. If I needed one last spur into action, I found out that my cousin had a transplant on New Year's Eve. It's a reminder of the marvels of medicine and the need to channel funds towards vital research and patient support.
I've surpassed myself in the technical department and have set up a blog to chart my progress. If I'm not sleeping in a ditch, snuggling up to my punctured tyre, I'll try to update you on the revolutions of my wheels most nights of my trip. It will be as hotly anticipated as the next episode of 'Glee'. Check it out at: http://diggersjogle.weebly.com/
