Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In November 2005, my Mum had a kidney transplant at King's College Hospital, London. She has been cared for and monitored there since 1994 and continues to have regular check-ups now. My Uncle was a perfect match, and thanks to him, she was able to have a transplant without suffering the trauma of dialysis. He was also cared for at King's. Mum's kidneys failed as a result of a genetic abnormality, one which wasn't diagnosed until the age of 32. There is a 50% chance my 3 sisters and I could also carry the gene. We will not know until we reach our thirties whether this is the case.
King's College Hospital's Renal Unit is one of the best in the country, yet Kidney Disease is something which, despite affecting thousands of people in the UK, doesn't recieve much media coverage. As a result, generous donations are few and far between.
On the 4th October 2009, I am going to do a skydive. I will jump out of a plane at 13,000 feet (obviously with a trained professional, and parachute as I am not completely barking mad), and free fall for 30 seconds, before releasing my parachute (fingers crossed).
Please give generously, and let me thank you now just in case I make news headlines as one of the unlucky few whose parachute fails ;-)
