2 half marathons in a month · 11 October 2009

Radio Lollipop operates at Evelina Children's Hospital and at Great Ormond Street Hospital to provide care, comfort and play to children and their families. Volunteers involve and entertain children during their stay in hospital by combining music from its studio (in an old tube carriage at GOSH and a new glass cube at Evelina) with play activities on the wards. It's serious FUN!

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Anybody who knows me will know that rather than excercise i would rather chill with a glass of wine. Any excuse ha.

Well I have rather worringly decided to run 2 half marathons in a 4 week period.

The Great london parks run is on the 11th october 09. Its not far away now. eek.

Why you ask, are you mad I hear you all scream. Well I am beginning to think this myself. But it is of course to raise money for a very worthwhile charity.

The charity I have chosen to support and raise awareness and hopefully some money for is Radio Lollipop.

Radio Lollipop believes in the healing power of play - providing smiles and laughter to children at a time when they need it most in hospital.

One in four children are admitted to a hospital before reaching age 14. Though some patients are short-stay, many have a recurring need for care and return repeatedly to hospital. Some who are terminally ill spend much of their short lives in hospital.

Radio Lollipop gives young children a voice and a choice during their stay in hospital. While they can´t say "no" to taking their medicine or receiving treatment, they can request their favourite songs, win prizes and hear their own voices on the radio. Those activities give youngsters a haven of normality in the hospital day which in other respects is strange, different and often scary.

Radio lollipop relies on volunteers who dedicate their spare time to helping young children in hospital, just to see them pick up a toy or start playing, or just smiling, is at the heart of what they are about. Play is a part of every childs development and allows a respite from the sometimes very gruelly and frighteningly painful day.

It currently provides its services in Great Ormond Street hospital and Evelinas Children Hospital in London, but they are in 10 hospitals across the country spreading happiness and smiles to sick and poorly children.

There is so much that radio lollipop do to support the needs of sick and terminally ill children. To find out more visit

The most important thing is to ensure that this vital service continues Radio Lollipop really do need your support. To provide these services to the children is extremely costly and really is like a lifeline to many who spend most of their lives in hospital.

Please help by giving a donation, even £5 will mean a little girl can make a twinkly sparkly bracelet or a young boy can visit the radio station and request songs.

Thanks guys, really appreciate it.
