Why am I running the London Marathon?

Running The London Marathon was on my list of things to do before I was 30. Unfortunately I didn’t get round to it as I am now 31!! Ahhh!

Since finding out about The Lilly Foundation it has given me a massive push to get myself fit and participate in this amazing event and raise as much money as I can for Liz and her charity.

The Lilly Foundation

Lily Anna Merritt was a beautiful little girl and despite being given days to live, she graced this world with eight months of life. The Lily Foundation was built on Lily's strength and inspired by her fighting spirit.  Although The Lily Foundation was founded in Lily's memory - it is not for Lily. It is to give hope, answers and support to the many other children and families that face the challenges of this disease today.

There is no cure or treatment for Mitochondrial Disease.

By sponsoring me running the London Marathon in April 2011 you will be helping The Lilly Foundation to find a cure for Mitochondrial Disease.

Recent research has shown that 1 in 200 healthy newborns are carriers of Mitochondrial Disease and are at risk of passing the disease onto their offspring.

The £2,000 that I raise for running the London Marathon will go towards The Lilly Foundations first challenge: To raise £400,000 to fund a gene testing programme that will use chip technology to speed up diagnosis and advance research into finding a cure.

If thats not enough....Claire Louise Carter running 26.2 miles through the streets of London….that’s got to be worth Something!!??

I’m not the best runner in the world so at the moment I am doing as much training as I can fit in!! I need all the support I can get so every time someone adds a little something to help me reach my target it pushes me that little bit more and gives me the support and motivation I need to run The London Marathon.
