Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit Claire & Andy’s JustGiving page.
It has been almost a year since my dearest daddy died and now seems like the right time to do something positive in his memory. The 5km Santa run in Greenwich Park sounded like just the thing. I know 5km isn’t that far, but hopefully you realise it will be a challenge for me (especially with less than 3 weeks to get fit & running dressed in a Santa costume!). I’m hoping Andy can keep me running most of the way, I'm not promising but I'll give it my best shot!?!
I have been so surprised at the lack of awareness and knowledge about thrombosis (including DVT), not only amongst the public but also health professionals. The Lifeblood charity works to educate both groups and fund vital research. The charity’s focus for 2009 has been to prevent thromboses for patients in hospital for whom the risks are high. Over 25,000 patients in England die each year from thrombosis; this is more than the combined total of deaths from breast cancer, AIDS and traffic accidents, and more than twenty-five times the number who die from MRSA. It is a leading cause of death in the UK and when found in time can be treated as easily as with medication; but even better can be prevented with the help of doctors, hospital staff and public awareness.
Please donate what you can now. Lifeblood: The Thrombosis Charity only formed in 2003 (it is the main charity for thrombosis in the UK), so there is much more research and education that can be done to save the lives of many loved ones.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
