Jack's 'Minions' National Three Peaks Challenge

National Three Peaks Challenge · 25 March 2016
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In June 2015 my Husbands gorgeous wee boy Jack, only 7 years old came down with Pneumonia and was in Addenbrooks hospital in Cambridge for 2 weeks. After his recovery and operation to drain his lung, he went back to the hospital for a routine scan to ensure it hadn't come back. After his scan in mid-August, the real struggle and story began........
A very large Tumour (the size of a football) was found in Jacks wee chest, it was sadly diagnosed as a very rare tumour that could not be operated on as it was in-twined with his vital organs and was too dangerous. Over the course of the next two weeks Jack started Chemotherapy and was admitted straight into PICU (paediatrics Intensive Care Unit) in Addenbrooks.
Jack very worryingly got progressively worse and worse as the tumour crushed both his lungs, while also crushing his wee heart. He was put on vital ventilation and was sadly put into a self induced coma for 1 month. This was a very, very hard time for us all and Jack's future was very bleak, which was just heart crushing to hear, and see.
Jacks chemotherapy still continued, and after being woken up out of his coma he had a scan and to our absolute surprise, shock and delight, we were told that his tumour had been turned to liquid, meaning he could be operated on to remove the tumour. This was the news that we needed to hear.
Jack had his big operation, and the amazing surgeons managed to remove 95% of his tumour, and since then, Jack has very slowly got stronger and stronger each day, each week, each month. He was recently taken out of PICU and is now on a high dependency unit.
Jack has been in hospital for 5 months so far, and will most likely be in Hospital until April 2016 (all being well)
Jacks story, struggle and MIRACLE will still continue once he gets home as a small part of the tumour still remains, but we all have good hopes that this will dissolve in time.
All I can say, is that I am so proud of Jack for being so strong and a real life super hero - he kicked this horrible diseases ass! I'm also very thankful for the NHS, all the doctors, nurses, surgeons, consultants at Addenbrooks Hospital. And of course proud of Martin for keeping strong through this horrible journey we have taken. But the trick is to stay positive for Jack, that poor little boy deserves such a big medal and honour for what he has been through this past year.
The charity that we will be climbing the Three Peaks for is very close to our hearts, as The Sick Childrens Trust is an organisation that is very much needed in order to help the families of the sick Children get rest, food, beds, showers, and most of all rest-bite after spending days, weeks, months in hospital supporting their children. It keeps us all strong, therefore your child strong in their recovery. We stayed in Acorn house in Cambridge along with all the other families going through their own story, and it really is a truly wonderful place.
So, thats Jacks story in a very small nutshell, and your time, support and donations are very much appreciated - THANK YOU
