Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Whilst at an Adult Training Camp at Keysoe with my horse Spotty in September, I met a fellow rider and now friend, Sue Peck, who told me of her plans to enter the Wobbleberry Challenge.  This challenge was set up by some ladies that were inspired by the story of a brave, young, horse loving teenager called Hannah.  Hannah had set up a charity called Willberry The Wonder Pony to raise money for bone cancer research and to grant 'horsey wishes' to horse loving cancer victims.  These Wobbleberries (middle aged, wobbly riders!), set themselves the challenge of entering a BE80 competition (British Eventing day event involving Dressage, Cross Country and Show Jumping) by the Autumn of 2017 and invited any 'wobbly' middle aged riders to do the same.  There are now hundreds of people involved in completing this within the next year, all with different reasons as to why this is a challenge. Sadly Hannah herself died of bone cancer in the Summer.  Hopefully the money raised can help others afflicted with the disease.

For my own part I could, and do, enter Cross Country Hunter Trials and am not a 'wobbly' rider per se BUT I have avoided entering other sorts of competitions (namely show jumping and dressage) as anyone that knows me well, will know that I REALLY REALLY hate people watching me!!!!  So I've decided to do this in order to get over this hurdle (that could be a pun!) and am going to work hard with dressage/schooling over the Winter (I'm terribly slack with schooling Spotty) so I can  remember a set dressage routine (I have NEVER done one!).

I've read so many stories from so many riders in the UK doing this challenge and feel very humbled.  Some are literally starting from scratch and have a huge mountain to climb but they're going for it so I can think of no reason not to go for it myself.

About the charity

The Charity was established by talented horse rider, Hannah Francis, following her diagnosis with the aggressive form of bone cancer, osteosarcoma. People all over the world followed Hannah's story which she told through her mascot, Willberry. Tragically Hannah passed away at just 18 years old.
