Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last year I did the Race for Life 5km for Cancer Research UK. Following this I decided I wanted to do more to help people who are suffering from cancer now, and wanted to help support carers, families and communities.

Cancer affects people in so many different ways; physically, mentally and financially. Macmillan Cancer Support help everyone. They are the nurses helping people through treatment, the volunteers running community activities, the benefits advisors helping people through the financial quagmire or even just the voice at the end of the phone providing a friendly ear.

Recently I dealt with a Macmillan representative who was working on behalf of a client of ours who was suffering from cancer. She was calling me every other day for an update and was really pushing for everything to be completed as quickly as possible. I remember thinking at the time how grateful I would be if this person was working on behalf of a member of my family and how hard she was working for them. When the case was completed, I received a handwritten 'Thank you' card from the representative too which really meant a lot.

£10 could keep five typical Macmillan information and support centres stocked with all the information resources they need to support people affected by cancer for an hour.

£19 could pay for a Macmillan benefits adviser to work in a Citizens Advice Bureau for an hour, when they would advise people with cancer, their families and carers so they can access benefits and other kinds of financial support they are entitled to.

£25 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.

£50 could pay for a Macmillan Grant that buys someone with cancer a microwave, making it easier for them to prepare their food.

£70 could help run a large Macmillan information and support centre for one hour.

£130 could fund a Macmillan cancer information and support officer for a day. More people would have someone there for them to answer questions and talk to about their concerns.
