Coeliac UK is a charity set up to help and support people with Coeliac Disease. Coeliac Disease is an autoimmune disease. Gluten is found is wheat, barley, oats and rye which triggers an immune reaction in people with Coeliac Disease. This means by eating gluten, the lining of the small intestine gets damaged. 

Eight years ago I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease after a lifetime of suffering. Growing up the testing procedure for Coeliacs wasn't very well established. Following blood tests and an endoscopy a solution to my suffering was uncovered. Being told I had Coeliac Disease was overwhelming, I had no idea what it was, why I had it and how I was going to cope. Once diagnosed, I had to change my entire eating habits and maintain a strict Gluten-Free Diet.

Changing my diet was very daunting as the food wasn't very nice at first. But by removing something like gluten from my diet improved my health rapidly and have lived a healthy life since. More recently the gluten free food is improving, becoming more tasty and more appealing. The testing for Coeliac Disease is improving and that is through research and raising awareness. Coeliac Disease affects 1 in 100 people.

Coeliac UK don't receive any government funding and solely rely on the generosity of its members, supporters, charitable trusts and commercial partners.
