Climb for Clair

Give something different this Christmas

Hello!  You may or may not already know that I have a minor obsession with seeing how high I can climb!  For the past year I have been planning a trip, for entirely selfish reasons, to Argentina, to see if I can reach the top of Aconcagua  http://www.keadventure.com/trip/3363/aconcagua.html  At 6962m/22,835ft, Aconcagua is the world’s highest peak outside of Asia.  It is generally considered a trek rather than a technical climb, but its difficulty lies in its altitude and vicious weather system.

Until recently, I had not intended to raise money on this trip, mainly because to ask people to sponsor me to reach the top of something that is in no way guaranteed, may be to place an unfair pressure on other team members .

However, a friend’s recent diagnosis of a rare form of cancer has made me reassess the value we place on things, not least of all the one life we all have.  OK, OK so the trip isn’t exactly devoid of risks, but they are calculated!  Anyway, it occurred to me that I could ask people to sponsor my attempt to climb this thing – not that I’m not going to give it my all to get to the top.

Clair’s choice of charity is Gloucestershire Animal Welfare Association and Cheltenham Animal Shelter, charity no. 1081019 - http://www.gawa.org.uk/ .  Like many other charities that receive no government support, Cheltenham Animal Shelter has suffered during the recession, and the health and welfare of many animals is reliant upon our good will.

A £5 donation provides flea and worm treatment for one dog or cat.  £10 provides vaccinations for one dog or cat, and £15 feeds one dog or cat for a month.

The shelter also has an excellent education programme.  A unique part of the shelter's education portfolio is the HALT Project (Humans and Animals Learning Together), an animal assisted therapy programme delivered five times a year for 'at risk' youth in Gloucestershire.  Read more about it at:     http://www.gawa.org.uk/education.

PLEASE SPONSOR MY ATTEMPT TO SUMMIT ACONCAGUA. I HOPE I COME BACK WITH ALL 10 DIGITS SO I CAN COLLECT YOUR DONATIONS!!!  I leave on 9th January and return (hopefully!) on 2nd February

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. So please dig deep and donate now.

Please note that I have paid for this trip entirely out of my own funds.  Your donations will all go to Cheltenham Animal Shelter and will not go towards my airfare or trek tucker!!
