Story
It all seemed such a good idea and such a long time to train for back in September. But now it's nearly on me - the training is in full swing and I'm looking for sponsorship. So here are the details and how it breaks down...
40 years - yes it true I'm 40 this year and thought I'd try a new challenge - just what I need, another new challenge (mid life crisis anyone?)
3 events - Yep 3 different events.
The long run, the Two Oceans Challenge - a 56km race in Cape Town (http://portal.twooceansmarathon.org.za/). It promises to be a fantastic run but its not just long (56km is just under 35 miles) but has some killer climbs too, the biggest of which is Constantia Nek at 215m (http://portal.twooceansmarathon.org.za/themes/tom2010/alt/56K.pdf)
The shorter run, the London Marathon, a race that needs no explanation, but I'll give a few details now anyway. 26.2 miles, millions of pounds raised for charity, over 35 thousand runners - only some of which are dressed as Postman Pat, Barney Rubble or the Telly Tubbies. I'll be in ridiculously short shorts as usual.
Whitehaven to Newcastle Bike Ride. The really tough event. Its 144 miles in 1 day on a bike. Its goes along the route of Hadrian's Cycleway (http://www.cycle-routes.org/HADRIANSCYCLEWAY/) and is the main even organised by Toybox, the Charity this is all for (http://www.toybox.org.uk/one_day_cycle_challenge.html)
2 Months - All this in 2 months between the 3rd April and 31st May. Although I expect the suffering to last much much longer. Especially in the gluteus maximus region.
1 Charity. The important bit. All this is for Toybox, a fantastic Charity that help street children in Latin America (http://www.toyboxcharity.org.uk/). It aims to provide a better future for those children. Everyday Toybox offers those forgotten children the chance of a brighter future. Just £10 can help provide a future education by helping with tuition fees, living costs, books and bus fares. Anything you can donate would be wonderful. Thank you.
