My story
We all completed the walk on the 1st August,
It took 12 days to walk 192 miles after a massive effort of all of us doing 32 miles in the last day to make the date,
Going through 3 national parks,
Countless ankle breaking situations
And vast amount of pain from trench foot, knee and ankle problems and back pain.
But we couldn't be happier.
Thank you
Henry, Max, Mike and Theo
Due to the overwhelming response in donations we have decided to raise the target.
Thank you so much,
Henry, Maxwell, Theo and Michael
Our aim is to walk coast to coast for our close friend Hassan White; we want to raise money for the hospital that Hassan is currently at and to raise awareness of his story.
Hassan's Story.
On the 16of October last year, Hassan was out with friends in Herne Hill. Whilst running for a bus on his way home, he stepped out onto the street from behind a parked white van and was hit by an oncoming car. He suffered severe head trauma, ligament damage and a broken leg. He was recently moved to the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability in Putney. His future remains uncertain; however there have been promising signs from Hassan. He is now able to communicate non-verbally and is learning to speak and walk again.
Everyone is hoping for these small improvements to continue. Hassan is a popular student, whose ever-positive outlook on life is infective; he has always been there for anyone who needs him, and that is one of the reasons why he was so popular amongst his friends. His cackle is a familiar sound around the college, and has been missed by everyone since the accident.
Hassan’s passions include basketball, art, dancing and music. Hassan’s love of dance led him to give many spontaneous demonstrations and lessons. He was also never afraid to give off the cuff performances, and take on free-style dancers, always in an amicable manner. His enthusiasm for basketball has been inspirational, and his love for the sport unwavering; no-one could forget the full court celebration and the expression of sheer joy and happiness when Hassan ended the Dulwich College basketball tour to Malta with a ‘swish’ from the left baseline; the “biggest points of the tour”. It was moments like this when Hassan’s joy was most contagious. Celebrating our unbeaten tour that night, Hassan blasted out many tunes on the karaoke with incredible enthusiasm – accompanied as always by some dancing.
The Walk.
Maxwell Buchan, Theo Rutherford-Browne, Henry Mills and Michael Murray will all embark on the 190 mile coast to coast walk on the 21st July at Robin Hood's Bay and aim to reach the west coast at St. Bee’s Head 10 days later. The walk will be physically and mentally exhausting and will put us through our paces.
Any money donated to the family of Hassan or to the Neurological Hospital will greatly appreciated.
