I've wanted to try an Ironman triathlon ever since I became aware of it.....but to be honest it was just too scary a challenge so I bottled out of applying for years!!  The distances are a bit mind boggling. To finish Ironman Wales you need to swim 2.4 miles in the cool Welsh sea, cycle 112 miles around the Pembrokeshire Countryside  and then run 26.2 miles around the beautiful coastal town of Tenby.

Why am I doing it......

I thought that if I was to participate in an Ironman then I would use it as an opportunity to raise funds for charity. Unfortunately this year my cousin Aileen has been diagnosed with leukaemia and the mum of a good mate of mine was also diagnosed with cancer. Check out my cousin's inspirational blog about her journey so far -  https://turbanoftheday.wordpress.com/

Like you, I know many others who are affected by cancer and I understand the valued support organisations such as MacMillan provide to patients and their families.  

So...after years of bottling it I've decided 2016 is the year to take on the Ironman challenge before I have a mid life crisis....  I've been successful in gaining a charity entry with MacMillan Cancer Support team so I've now got two challenges - one to fund raise for this great charity and second to train to complete the Ironman! 

My initial fund raising target is £2000 for MacMillan, which I'm aiming to raise through fund raising and organising events on the build up to the big day in September .  If I exceed this total, which I aim to do, I'll provide funds towards Bloodwise Scotland as well - both organisations are providing fantastic support to my family and friends at this time.

All donations made will go to the charities. I'm covering all travel, accommodation, training and equipment costs so don't worry about your money not getting to the people who need it most.
