Story

Ok here we go *cue xfactor sob story music* ... No just kidding.  I don't see much need.  Statistically 1 in 2 people have been affected by Cancer so I don't need to go in to that one.  Stand Up For Cancer supports Cancer Research UK so you know any donations will go to critical research to aid finding a cure for this nasty piece of work.  Below we have all written a short piece about our motivation for doing the 5K.

Dave

I know we're not talking marathon or Ironman distances here.  But for me 5K might as well be a marathon.  For those that know me I am not exactly of an athletic build.  I spend most of my time working at a computer and admittedly I dodge exercise like a fat kid dodges salad.

So for me signing up to do something as hideous sounding as a run is quite unusual but I do believe in the cause and I hope you do too.

I think for me the Color Run is the perfect starting place for my first dabble in a charity run (not including a 10k midnight walk a couple of years ago). I think a positive mental attitude can be the difference for many Cancer sufferers beating or succumbing to the disease.  So if by running 5K around Manchester whilst being pelted with multi coloured paint will bring a smile to people's faces then hopefully we can spread some happiness.

If those reasons aren't good enough for you then please consider this.  I am going to America and I arrive back 3 days before the run.  This means that crucial time that would previously have been spent putting myself into a food and drink fuelled coma will now be spent in hotel gyms on treadmills and eating salads.  That my friends is dedication and surely deserves at least a small donation.

Thanks for reading and please donate what you can now and together we will kick cancer's arse.

Thanks in advance

Dave

Zoe

I agreed to do the Color Run for two reasons.  1. is that is sounds hilarious.  2. (The main one) is that by doing it we are raising money for Stand Up To Cancer which is an incredibly important charity.  Our family has a few close experiences with Cancer so I know first hand how it can affect families.

If you can donate whatever you can afford it will all go to help finding a cure, and hopefully we can bring an end to the suffering that Cancer causes.

Laura

Dave asked me to do the color run with him so that he had someone to do it with.  However when hearing it was for a cause like Cancer Reseach UK I wanted to help raise any money that we could.

Working in science I know what funding can do to a charity like Cancer Research UK.  Only a decade ago Cancer was nearly always a death sentence, whereas today there is an 85% survival rate for breast cancer.  This is a huge step is short time, but there is still work to do, so please give what you can.
