The Aspire Channel Swim 2009 · 6 December 2009 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Hi Guys!

I, along with two other ladies - Beth and Catherine, am swimming the distance of the English channel (22 miles) in 12 weeks to raise money for the charity Aspire, who help people with spinal chord injuries.

This is a massive feat considering we're all doing our degrees and are on society committees, but we will make sure we find the time to do an average of 130 lengths a week.

We will be swimming the distance in Woodcock sports centre, Aston University.

Please donate whatever you can, every little helps!!!

I will keep you updated on my progress. on here and on my facebook page:

100 laps today...decided to go for it because I missed my session Friday...damn the degree making me busy!!!

02/12/09

62 laps...only have 45 minutes again

29/11/09

60 laps done - unfortunately only had 45mins free today - because I had a group meeting on a Sunday!!!

I'm aiming for 200 more laps out the way by this time next week :-)

27/11/09

First 70 laps done - not as bad as I thought, but I really need to get a swimming cossie so I don't have to do the whole challenge doing backstroke!

26/11/09

I will be going down to the pool tomorrow (27/11/09) to try and put down my first 60 laps - wish me luck, because I've been to the gym once in the last five months!!!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate.
