With your help we raised the £3000 needed to bring peg home, and now we need it again to help other people who were in our situation.

We needed their help now Nowzad need yours even more... they have lost their lease to the land in which nowzad dogs was situated and now have 3 months to raise the £250,000 needed to rehome and relocate the charity and its animals.

On the 9th of February 2011, Private Conrad Lewis of the Parachute Regiment sadly became the 353rd fallen soldier to be killed during his first tour of Afghanistan. As a family and a group of such wide but close friends it becomes hard to find moments and things of comfort which you long to hold onto.

However, during Conrads tour and time in Afghanistan he would often talk highly of a stray dog that they should have shot when taking over the CP (they didn't) and she was a constant companion to the checkpoint where Conrad operated, she went on nearly every patrol, even stayed in one of the longest (9 hours) contacts. She would lie down with them, stand and move forward with them, completely unphased by the gunfire and she provided in her own way that element of compassion and "home" that they needed. Now with thanks to Nowzad dogs, Sbag (in the picture on the left) renamed Peg, short for Pegasus, is finally home in quarantine. As you can appreciate this is a very unique memory for everybody as she was something so close to Conrad and someone who Conrad would spend his time with and spent his last few days with. But, this is not a cheap process and we feel we should help with the cost of bringing home this final puzzle piece and the last Afghan hero from the 2010/11 tour, whether we help with the whole cost or just make a dent, we feel our gratitude should be repayed somehow.

Nowzad Dogs

Charity Registration No. 1119185

An Afghan dog's life is not one of comfort at the best of times; most of the day is spent hunting for scraps of food or hiding from the hot desert sun during the summer and the freezing cold of an Afghan winter night. There is definitely no pampered pet status in Afghanistan.
We have started small but with your help we can only get bigger! All the money that is donated goes directly towards helping the animals in need while raising awareness of the problems that homeless animals, (in war zones), can and do face. We realise we cannot transport all of the stray dogs of Afghanistan to loving homes but we will do our best to promote animal welfare and to assist vital animal aid work that is carried out by the Afghan rescue centre. We are working hard to provide a sustainable plan for training and educational programs to train the Afghan vets of tomorrow as they just don't have the adequate educational facilities in place and to promote the benefits of animal clinics. It will be a long slow road but I hope that you will stay with us for the journey. We keep all administration costs to a minimum - the Nowzad Dogs team are all unpaid volunteers!
Our mission statement:
'To relieve the suffering of animals, predominantly stray and abandoned dogs, in need of care, attention and to provide and maintain rescue facilities for the care and treatment of such animals, especially the dogs of Afghanistan'.
