Cornish Marathon Rowing Challenge · 17 November 2013

The King’s Trust supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to get their lives on track. Many of the young people we support are in or leaving care, have been in trouble with the law, or they are facing challenges such as homelessness or mental health issues.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Following my company (BNY Mellon) sponsorship of the Oxford Cambridge boat race and with the inspiration of a fitness fanatic friend (!), I was somehow driven to take on a bit of a challenge!

A very good friend of mine, who it seems runs marathons and further for a bit of light entertainment, told me in the Summer of his upcoming events. 64 mile coastal run (!), October marathon in Amsterdam, November Cornish Marathon.....and that's when my ears perked up, especially as Cornwall is where I call 'home'.

After badly damaging my knee a few years back, I am not able to join my friend in running the Cornish Marathon (much to his sadistic disappointment!), however, I have taken to doing a spot of indoor rowing at the gym in recent months. It seems as though I have agreed (with the encouragement of an ale or two!) to do a little more than a spot of rowing come 17th November. On that day I'll be sitting on a rowing machine somewhere in Cornwall and will start rowing at the same time that my friend starts to run. I can't promise I'll beat him, or even come close to him (he's quick!), but I will be putting everything into it to finish the 26.2 miles....or 42,195 metres if you're a metric fan.

And I can't just do this for bravado's sake - that would be a waste.

The Prince's Trust are my company's official charity partner for the Boat Race. They really do some amazing work with young people across the country, all the money raised will be spent directly on some of the most vulnerable and disengaged young people in the UK.

So please dip into those pockets, not only to support my stupidity, but to support a really worthwhile cause....
