Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In March 2011 my mother was placed on the waiting list for a double lung transplant. She was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at a young age and despite being told she would not make it to adulthood she has beaten the odds and celebrated her 60th birthday in October 2011.
Over the past few years mum's health had been deteriorating, she was on oxygen constantly and was spending months out of the year in hospital. Her life was getting increasingly difficult but she kept her head up and rarely even grumbled.
On the 5th November 2011 mum finally received her new lungs. She was taken by ambulance from her home in Edinburgh to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle where she has received outstanding care and support.
She is still in hospital recovering and the recovery may take months but my mum is, as ever, positive and inspirational.
I cannot begin to explain how grateful I am to not only the staff in the hospital, but the charitable donations that make the relatives accommodation that we were provided with possible.
I am also eternally thankful to the donor who so kindly joined the register and gave my mum their lungs and a chance of adding some quality years to her life.
It is for this reason that I decided to give up smoking. I vowed my last cigarette would be on the day of mums transplant. I have slipped twice but I am determined to keep my lungs as healthy as I can so that hopefully one day someone like my mum can benefit from receiving healthy organs.
This page will hopefully not only give me the extra boost and willpower to keep me on the straight and narrow but I also hope will raise some much needed funds to ensure that families and patients that use the Freeman can continue to experience the level of care and attention that we have.
Please give generously. If you can't give anything financially please do consider joining the Donor Register to leave someone a gift worth so much more than money. http://www.uktransplant.org.uk/ukt/Consent.do
