In this type of pancreatitis the inflammed pancreatic tissue begins to die causing cell death. He did not have gall stones nor did he drink alcohol in fact we never imagined that we would loose our father to such a cruel and fatal disease.</span><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: &#39;Times New Roman&#39;;"> </span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: &#39;Times New Roman&#39;;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: &amp;amp;amp;amp; mso-fareast-font-family: &#39;Times New Roman&#39;;"><em>Approximately 12,000 cases of Acute Pancreatitis are reported in the UK every year and approximately 1000 die from the disease.</em> There are no drugs available to treat this illness, instead the damaged parts of the pancreas are surgically removed and drains inserted in the abdomen to drain the pancreatic fluid - thus the patient is normally taken to theatre on a number of occasions.
