Story
On 30 September, proudly wearing #30 I shall be running the Barns Green Half Marathon and launching a 30 day countdown to my appearance on Channel 4's iconic gameshow, Countdown, which is set to be aired on 30 October. 30 is the number of seconds on the Countdown Clock, do-do do-do do-di-do-do pow...
Halfway through that 30 day period, I am also running The Royal Parks Half Marathon in London, where I hope to finally record a time less than 2 hours on my 9th attempt.
My motivation for helping PCUK is the loss of a dear friend to this horrible disease in November last year. Larry Brash was the Awardsmaster of The Anagrammy Awards for 18 years and I took over his role back in May 2016, some 18 months before his passing. Wordplay and anagrams have always been a fascination for me and over the years, I have raised money in a number of ways with anagrams and Scrabble, so this dedication of my appearance on TV to his memory will hopefully help those who knew him remember the great guy they knew and loved. He would have turned 70 this year and I have set up a text code which will make it easy for you to donate £3 to the cause... just text "RIPL70 £3" to 70070
Please come along also to the website www.anagrammy.com and vote in our monthly anagram competition and if you are in the area on the day, come along and support either or both of the running events. At Barns Green on 30/9, I will be playing jazz at the side of the course with The Repercussions in Two Mile Ash Road before and after running and in London two weeks later on 14/10, I will be lucky enough to run through some of the capital's iconic Royal Parks.
