Bupa Great North Run 2011 · 18 September 2011 ·

Sense is here to support disabled people from the first weeks of life through all the major milestones of adulthood. Over 70 years, we’ve built extensive knowledge and expertise in supporting disabled people with complex needs, including deafblind people.

Story

I'm overweight and underfit but somehow I found myself signed up for the Great North Run on 18th September as part of Team Truck East. We are running for the charity 'Sense', which supports and campaigns for deafblind children and adults.

Getting out and running was only hard for me because I've been lazy and greedy for too many years. But all it really took to get on the road was a cheap pair of trainers and a few smug phonecalls from Lauren about how many miles she had just run.

For people with deafblindness just getting around the home, let alone the streets is a much greater challenge. This sense of isolation in addition to the dual-sensory loss itself can lead to people becoming increasingly withdrawn, depressed and isolated. Sense provide a range of support services, advice and accomodation so that with the right help, deafblind people can live fulfilling lives both at home and in the community.

There are 9 of us in the team, including Lauren(LozBoz), Jenna (JezBez) and Ross (TheWhippet) and Graham (GozBozTheBossBoz )but we all need to raise a minimum of £300 each so feel free to sponsor us individually to help us all reach our targets for this very worthy cause.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
