Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The reason "Lily's Legends" began is because our friend Vicki was told in August 2013, that her daughter, who was just 20 months old had neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer . Since then, brave Lily has undergone days of gruelling tests, and operations and for the past few months has been undergoing chemotherapy. Throughout all of this Lily has still been smiling and trying to carry on as normal, playing with her older brother and sister and cousins!
Vicki and her sister Emma decided they wanted to do something to raise awareness of this Cancer and thats when they decided to run a half marathon! When we were asked, Penny and I especially thought there is no way we could run 13.1 miles but after seeing what their family was going through we felt we should at least give it a try. There are now over 200 us running this for Lily and the thought of her keeps us going throughout our training!
Our running is going very well at the moment, although it has been tough in this wind and rain, however we are now up to 10 miles, and have 5 weeks to go!
Children develop neuroblastoma whilst in the womb and only 100 children are diagnosed with it each year in the UK. Early detection is the key - out of every 100 children diagnosed, it has spread in 75% of these. Out of this 75% only 45% go on to fully recover. If it is detected early & hasn't spread children have a 90% chance of making a full recovery. Shocking statistics! Vicki's persistence with the doctors has literally saved Lily's life as hers has hopefully been caught early enough to treat successfully. We are hoping to raise awareness of this awful disease. If we can enable even just one parent to catch it early & save their child's life, then something good can come out of everything my brave little niece & her parents, siblings, grandparents and the rest of our family have endured.
