Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year i am running the half marathon in for the Erskine Hospice. Erskine opened in 1916 to care for ex-servicemen. Erskine offers a unique quality of care with the provision of physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, podiatry and enhanced medical care on-site. Nursing care is provided by a highly skilled team and training programmes ensure that all staff receive the training that they require in order to deliver the highest standard of care possible. To be able to offer this quality care money is needed.
My Great Uncle Jack has been living within one of the Erskine facilities for the last 3 years. He is cared for to a very high level and is enjoying his time there. Uncle Jack was an RAF pilot and was shot down during World War II and spent time incarcerated within Stalag Luft III. This is the prisoner of war camp that was made famous with the movie "The Great Escape". Uncle Jack never made it through the tunnels. He was number 96 to go down the tunnel but the escape attempt was discovered at number 80. He spent his time as a runner between tunnels and barracks providing information and warnings.
On his retirement he took to running and completed 4 marathons in 4 years. He has told me that he was disappointed never to break the 5 hour barrier, but I still think it’s inspirational that he managed to do it.
That’s the two reasons I am running for Erskine. I thank you for looking at my just giving site and considering sponsoring me.
