Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Back in September 2016 I asked for your help in fundraising for Kidney Wales with my attempt at running the Cardiff 10K race, and I was amazed by the support given to me with donations and with the number of people coming to cheer me on.  The encouragement helped me complete the race in 1 hour and 8 minutes.  I had never run so far and could hardly walk afterwards.

In October 2017, you again supported me when I asked for your help raising funds for Cerebral Palsy Sport with my attempt at running the Cardiff Half Marathon (21K).  You helped me smash my fundraising target, and I completed the race in 2 hours 19 minutes.  Then I realised what it actually felt like hardly being able to walk after a race (along with bruised toenails and blisters the whole length of my foot!). That first 10K a year earlier seemed like a walk in the park.

2018 has been a tough year for training, between work commitments, the hot weather over the summer, and lots of car related activities, and my running has unfortunately been the casualty.  Only two 10K races and a 13K race completed over the year. As i type today in early December i am far from fit.

So it seemed like the sensible thing to plan my next challenge, a full blown marathon in 2019! (42k). And not just any marathon, but London! It must surely be the biggest and best marathon in the world.  I have been fortunate enough to secure a charity place running for an organisation called HemiHelp, which is partnered with the Contact Charity.

HemiHelp is the UK charity that provides information and support to people with hemiplegia and their families. Hemiplegia is a lifelong condition caused by injury to the brain. It affects movement on one side of the body to a varying degree and can also cause other less visible effects such as epilepsy, specific learning difficulties, anxiety or challenging behaviour. Hemiplegia affects one person in every 1000.

I am fundraising for this charity because I have left side hemiplegia myself.   That's why completing a Marathon distance will be such an achievement for me.  It’s not just about getting fit enough to get to the finish line - just going out running for me is hard enough! I am pushing myself to prove that physical limitations do not mean you have to be limited in what you want to achieve.  It is for this reason that I feel HemiHelp is a really important organisation that deserves all the help we can give them in supporting people living with Hemiplegia, Cerebral Palsy and neurological impairments.

Thank you so much for your support. I shall post updates during my training and watch out for me on the TV come 28th April 2019!
