My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is the most common heart rhythm disturbance encountered by doctors. Department of Health, 2007 figures, suggested AF affected in excess of 600,000 people in the UK. This is now considered to be an under estimate and that a more accurate figure may now be in excess of one million, with 200,000 patients being newly diagnosed each year.
It can affect adults of any age, but it is more common as people get older. In the over 65 year old age group, it affects about 10% of people. Atrial fibrillation is not a life-threatening heart rhythm problem, but it can be troublesome and often requires treatment.
I started suffering with AF in 2011 which was a big shock as I am 44, very fit and had run 5 marathons and numerous half-marathons. I was treated and went on to run the New York Marathon 3 months later. In 2012 I am running the Boston (USA) and Berlin Marathons and would like to use this as an opportunity to raise money for The Atrial Fibrillation Association (AFA).
The AFA is a UK registered charity which focuses on raising awareness of Atrial Fibrillation (AF) by providing information and support materials for patients and medical professionals involved in detecting, diagnosing and managing Atrial Fibrillation.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
