My grandma’s final battle with cancer was true to her way of
living- she rose up and laughed in the face of fear and adversity, she defied science; until only a few months ago was up scaffolding, cleaning the house and cooking enough for a small army. Until only a few months ago my grandma was was the fiercely determined, hardworking and ebullient woman I have always been so
proud and lucky to call my grandma. Watching cancer finally claim such a formidable woman who did not want to die was both heartbreaking and cruel.

My grandma loved life and was seriously fun. My childhood
memories of her are on the oblivion ride at Alton towers, the water flume at Legoland or the rapids at Centre parks; as well as endless traipsing after me and my sisters at pony club. My grandma was not only great fun but she had  a passion for education, determined that we, her ‘treasurekins’, would have opportunities she never had. Grandma would always be the first person we called – be it after a spelling test or important results, she was always so proud and supportive of everything we did, she was unfailingly at every prize day and every school- and that support meant everything.

My grandma may no longer be here but she has left a legacy more
powerful than words can articulate: a legacy of love, determination and
success. Grandma is continually in my thoughts and I will be running the Royal Parks marathon in her memory, as just a small part of her legacy. Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you can donate to Cancer Research it would be much appreciated.
