WHY:

At some point in everyone's life, they turn around and question why... this is normally triggered by a pressure point, a change of environment, a period of uncertainty, an unwanted event... but this is different. This challenge was not born of a mid-life crisis, nor did it follow a period of soul searching, trying to find an answers- it was instead born of a moment of inspiration, a little too much adrenaline, a gung-ho attitude and a spontanious spark of enthusiasm across a group of guys that figured WHY rather than why not...

 

After any initial spark, the excitement, the high, there is typically a lull, a moment of doubt, a question of sanity, the bit that requires some depth...

 

Now unforuntely for us, this 'moment' will last from now until the channel has been conquered, we have endured months of training, our bodies are exhausted and our metal as a team well and truly tested!!  But fortunately for us, we have a focus, a motivation and a drive that means we will succeed and be proud of what we've done.

 

The Challenge :

 

Dover to Calais in France, 23 nautical miles, 27 real miles, nearly 44 kilometres or c 33,000 oar strokes each !!!! We will have a team  8 rowers with 6 people rowing at any one time. The record currently stands at 4 hours, 16 minutes... we'll be hunting that!!

 

Our coach has stated that this is a very extreme challenge and we need to expect it to be rowing at its hardest in some of the toughest conditions in one of the world’s busiest busy Shipping & Ferry channels !!

 

He went on to say that when they organised this for John Bishop as part of his ‘Five Days of Hell’ John stated at the end of the week that the row was by far and away the most difficult part of his journey, which included a 180 mile bike ride and 3 marathons back to back !
