My story

UPDATE 30/09/2009

Steve, John and Myself completed the 100 mile cycle last Saturday. It was 11 hours of absolute agony. Particularly the last half hour, where they had kindly left the final two and hardest peaks of Devil's Dyke to the last five miles when we were drained of almost all energy. We came in pretty much last, but at least we managed to get through the day (thanks to Boost, Snickers, and Tracker bars and copious amounts of Dextrose tablets and Lucozade) to make it to the finish line, shortly before they packed it away and went home! On the plus side, we have so far raised in excess of £250 from online and other donations and we got to see some breath-taking scenery along the way.

This webpage is still open for donations should you wish to give. Enormous thanks to those who have already pledged their hard earned cash.

Stuart, John and Steve

A polite request for sponsorship.....

On Saturday 26th September a handful of my friends and I will be taking part in a 100 mile charity cycle ride on a circular route starting and finishing in Brighton. This takes in some of the south coast but is better known for its passage through the South Downs and the numerous killer climbs from which it gains its nickname ‘The Hilly Hundred’. Take a look at the route by following this link:

Route

This is going to be a tough one! We set off at 7:30 am and, being a bunch of amateurs, expect it to require a full day of cycling to reach the finish line.

All for Cherish Uganda!

Cherish Uganda is a Christian faith based charity focused on safeguarding the lives and futures of children orphaned and abandoned as a result of HIV/AIDS. The charity owns a plot of land near Entebbe where it provides a loving home for these children, as well as free medical treatment, excellent nutrition, education, vocational training and community empowerment for the surrounding village.

If ever there was a worthy cause, this is it! This is not like donating money to Comic Relief or Children in Need, where you know some of your money will be spent covering the cost of paying D-list celebrities to tell rubbish jokes. The money you give will go right to the heart of this community where it will have a real and radical impact upon the lives of some of the most physically ill and socially and financially deprived people in the world, in a country ravaged by this terrible disease.

Please take the time before giving to learn more about Cherish Uganda by visiting its beautiful website at www.cherishuganda.org and that of its parent organisation Cherish A Child at www.cherishachild.org. Trevor Waldock and Rachel Parsons, two of the leaders of Cherish Uganda recently gave an inspirational sermon at Christian Growth Centre Chelmsford on the progress of the charity and you can listen to or download an MP3 of this via the CGC Chelmsford website, or by clicking on the following link:

Sermon

Cherish Uganda, my cycle buddies and I will be extremely grateful for any amount you can give, no matter how big or small. You can sponsor us here, or alternatively you can donate directly via the Cherish Uganda website. I have set £500 as a sponsorship target, but this is an arbitrary number. £500 would be incredible, but more would be even better.

Remember, Cherish Uganda is not just a relief effort, but is also building sustainable development for the long term future. To see the sort of impact your donation could have, please take a look at this short video:
