Dan's Pylon Climb Fundraising Page!

Pylon Climb · 15 June 2017
This year I have decided to take part in a sponsored Pylon climb in
association with National Grid to help raise funds for those affected by
Dementia.
Over the years I have supported many of my colleagues and friends on
their own efforts to raise money for various charitable causes, and have
previously completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge for charity, but it was only a matter of time before I found myself wanting to undertake another challenge to benefit those less fortunate.
I have been tasked with raising £300 for the Alzheimers Society to help
support those affected by Dementia, and although it would be great to hit this target, I obviously would like to exceed it in order to raise as much as possible for this worthy cause!
In addition to your valued pledge, for every pound raised National Grid
will claim match with the same amount!!
For those who may not be fully aware, Alzheimer's disease is the most
common cause of dementia. The word dementia describes a set of symptoms that can include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language.
At the moment there are 850,000 people living with dementia, and based on current trends, this will increase to 1.1m by 2025. For every person living with dementia, the annual cost to the UK economy is over £30,000 and yet only £90 is spent on dementia research each year.
Around 225,000 people will develop dementia this year, that’s one every
three minutes. For every £20 the Alzheimer’s Society receives, it enables one hour of care to be provided to a patient.
The challenge will be taking place on 15th June whereby I will be
attempting to climb an electrical pylon at a height of over 36m, and if the risks of electrocution and falling from height don’t spark your desire to pledge a donation, let me add that I even have trouble climbing into my loft at home… legs often dangling away like limp ropes, accompanied by strange grumblings and inaudible muttering, which my wife has unfortunately bared witness to on several occasions!
Please could I ask you to give whatever you can to support me in raising
as much as possible for this worthy cause, and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Wish me luck!
Many Thanks,
Dan
