CARE International is a humanitarian organisation leading the fight to end poverty in the world’s most challenging situations. Women and girls are at the centre of our work, because we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Over a 10 day period at the end of July 2010, I intend to compete in two tough triathlons to raise money for both Care International UK (the charity my wife works for as a Shelter specialist - www.careinternational.org.uk ) and also St Dunstans (the charity who provides lifelong support for blind and visually impaired ex-Service men and women - www.st-dunstans.org.uk ).

The first triathlon will take place in sweltering heat and at altitude in the French Alpes. The race includes a 2200m swim in glacial melt waters, followed by 3 alpine climbs over 72 miles of cycling, finishing atop the famous Alpe D'huez, where upon I will be running a half marathon! Temperatures are generally in the high thirties!!

If I survive this then just over a week later I will be racing with a visually impaired friend, Steve Parnell, at the London Triathlon. Whilst the distances are shorter, the event focuses on Steve and the logistics of negotiating a mass start swim, fast bike course and a 10km run.

We have 2 separate Just giving pages for the two charities, so please feel free to whichever you like or preferably to both! The other page is at: www.justgiving.com/DAVID-BABISTER-
