My story

Thanking you to all who sponsored me for the run. I managed a time of 1hr 15min and 15sec.

On Sunday 17th October 2010 I ran in the Cardiff Half Marathon in Memory of my Twin Brother, Martin. This is to help support SSAFA and the Royal Anglian Benevolent Charity. Two charities who have supported Martin's family, my family. Running in Cardiff is extra special since its Martin's partner's home city.

Martin was a very loving and kind person. As Twins we became very close and I am so proud of him. He achieved so much. He was a Captain with A (Norfolk) Company, of the First Battalion (The Vikings), The Royal Anglian Regiment. A position he held with great pride and honour.

What happened to Martin has been devastating. My family and that of his loving partner Jo, struggle to cope. Yet we are very grateful for the support of  friends, family, and many more.

SSAFA Forces Help started supporting us as a family whilst Martin was in Intensive Care. He had at the time, been acting as  Company Commander during a tour in Afghanistan. On 21st February 2010 he was seriously injured and was brought home to the UK for treatment. I had only seen Martin a few days previously on 31st January, our 31st Birthday on the  last day of his R+R break. For a period of this time we stayed in a special house (Norton House) for injured soldiers families near the hospital run by SSAFA. This was a big help for our elderly parents during this difficult time. Despite the best possible medical care given, Martin's injuries were too severe and he died on the 15th March with his family all around him.

Since then SSAFA's Bereaved Family Support Group has been there supporting us. Running for them as a charity is a way to try and say Thank You to them and to help raise awareness of the charity since they also help support other military staff and families is many other ways.

The link below is for the other charity who I am also running for, The Royal Anglian Benevolent Charity. I encourage you to support them as well
