Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'll be running for charity in the Edinburgh Full Marathon on 27th May 2012 for the Atrial Fibrillation Association (AFA) . Please be generous in your support.
AFA is a charity which provides information, support and access to established, new or innovative treatments for Atrial Fibrillation (AF).
Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia – heart rhythm disturbance. It occurs when chaotic electrical activity develops in the upper chambers of the heart (the atria). As a result, the atria no longer beat in an organised, regular rhythm, so the patient’s pulse is irregular and as a result, the pumping of the heart is less efficient. Across the UK approximately 1.2 million people suffer with Atrial Fibrillation.
I've suffered from both AF and Atrial Flutter from time to time over the last 2 years so I'm well aware of its risks it presents to health and how much it can slow you down.
But I've been very fortunate and received some excellent treatment which has kept me up and running. Most people are not as lucky.
This will be my first full marathon and a major personal challenge.
But I've run three half marathons in the last 18 months, so I’m feeling confident I can step-up and do this.
That is assuming I’m not in AF that weekend – in which case I’ll walk the 5K instead (which might actually be the harder challenge! )
Please be generous in your support of AFA, and those who have been less fortunate than me in overcoming the symptoms.
